Connected features to support the start of your PAP journey

Switching to a new machine or starting a different treatment programme can feel challenging. Fortunately, Air11 devices offer a helping hand whether you’re starting from scratch or switching things up.

  • On-screen instructions and a Quick Start Guide make it easy to download the myAir app and access your Personal Therapy Assistant (PTA).
  • PTA guides you through device and mask setup with clear, step-by-step ‘how-to’ videos.
  • Test Drive** is a feature of PTA in the myAir app. It lets you experience therapy before you start your first real session. It helps you gradually test different levels of pressure, check your mask seal and learn how to improve your mask fit if necessary.

Adapting to your breathing needs for comfortable central sleep apnoea therapy

  • The ASV PaceWave algorithm monitors your breathing while you sleep and continually adapts your therapy pressure to ensure it delivers the support you need at that moment.
  • Continuous leak management delivers reliable therapy pressure to help you feel confident about your treatment.
  • Climate Control comprises the optional HumidAir™ humidifier and the optional ClimateLineAir™ heated tube and is designed to deliver constant, comfortable temperature and humidity.

What are the different AirCurve 11 ASV PaceWave modes?

The ASV PaceWave algorithm treats central sleep apnoea and/or mixed apnoea and periodic breathing by stabilising your breathing and delivering effective support in sync with your natural breath cycle. It’s available in two modes, depending on how your obstructive events need to be treated:

For ASV with continuous pressure

ASV mode

In the PaceWave ASV mode, clinicians can customise the fixed expiratory positive airway pressure (EPAP) to the optimal level for keeping your airway open.

A red circle icon with two crossed arrows in the centre symbolising auto-adjusting pressure.

For ASV with auto-adjusting pressure

ASVAuto mode

This mode adapts to your needs on a breath-by-breath basis. By treating breathing disorders with auto-adjusting positive pressure (APAP) support, and upper airway obstructions with EPAP, ASVAuto mode can rapidly stabilise breathing.

Personalised support to help get therapy off to a great start

With the Air11 device, you can access 24/7 support via a virtual coaching programme in the myAir app. This provides tailored tips to help boost your confidence with ASV therapy.

The app also lets you track your therapy progress and record other health data (such as step count), as well as giving you therapy goals to help you stay motivated.

ResMed AirCurve 11 ASV PaceWave FAQs

Adaptive servo-ventilation. Put simply, this is a more specialised type of PAP machine that measures your breathing patterns as you sleep, then customises the pressure it delivers to stabilise your breathing throughout the night.

An adaptive servo-ventilation (ASV) machine is a specialised type of positive airway pressure (PAP) machine used to treat sleep-disordered breathing. ASV machines are particularly suited to people with central sleep apnoea (CSA), a type of sleep apnoea that occurs when the brain stops sending signals to muscles that control breathing during sleep. This is less common than obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), which occurs when the airway is blocked during sleep, causing breathing problems. ASV machines work by measuring your breathing patterns during sleep and adjusting the air pressure accordingly to stabilise your breathing.

Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines primarily treat OSA by helping to keep the airway open during sleep via a set, steady stream of pressurised air, whereas BiPAP machines deliver air at two different pressures: one for when you breathe in and one for when you breathe out. ASV machines also deliver air at different pressures, but they can do more: they provide a backup respiratory rate, which helps maintain breathing during central apnoeic events. This backup respiratory rate is personalised based on ongoing monitoring of the person’s breathing patterns.

If you have a more complex sleep-disordered breathing condition, such as combined OSA/CSA, TE-CSA, mixed apnoea or periodic breathing, you may need more than conventional PAP devices can offer. In this case your healthcare provider might decide that an ASV device can deliver the right treatment for you. Please note that this type of therapy should only be started under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

ASV is contraindicated for some groups of people*, which means it is not suitable for everyone – these contraindications are detailed in the user guide. If you are interested in starting or switching to ASV therapy, always speak to your GP or healthcare provider first.

Both use ResMed’s ASV PaceWave algorithm to treat central sleep apnoea and/or mixed apnoea and periodic breathing. In ASV mode, the expiratory positive airway pressure (EPAP) is fixed and can be manually adjusted by a clinician to eliminate obstructive events (pauses in breathing). When the device is in ASVAuto mode, the pressure adjusts automatically to provide only the amount of EPAP required to maintain upper the patient’s airway patency (ie their ability to breathe) and/or prevent obstructive events.

It’s important to keep your AirCurve 11 ASV PaceWave machine clean and well maintained so that your therapy remains effective. Your user guide contains detailed instructions for cleaning and maintenance.

Please refer to the user guides for relevant information related to any contraindications, warnings and precautions to be considered before and during use of the products.

*ASV therapy is contraindicated in patients with chronic, symptomatic heart failure (NYHA 2-4) with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF ≤ 45%) and moderate to severe predominant central sleep apnoea.

**Pressure acclimatisation feature (‘Test Drive’) is the same across all Air 11 devices and offers a user experience similar to CPAP/APAP therapy.
